DN3D is a very colorful game and one of the things I like about it is that many of the levels look as though they were real and taking place in a real environment and not in some haunted house.  In addition, there are some very interesting weapons such as the pipe bomb, shrinker, freeze gun, and laser trip mine.  These weapons are extremely powerful but are even more so when beating up on a friend.  (You'll have to try them for yourself, but the names give 'em away :-)  Also, Duke has a character.  There are one-liners every once in a while which puts some humor into the game.  You are Duke Nukem.

      There are some problems with DN3D.  For one, it is a very difficult game especially on the higher difficulty levels.  Second, the fact that there are enemies in places where you won't notice them (such as over you).  Another thing I find annoying is that after you have cleaned out a room, more appear once you come back, making for some nasty surprises.  Over all though, the levels in Duke are well-designed and quite interesting.

      The best part of Duke 3D is multiplayer action.  Getting killed by the end level boss is one thing, but getting killed by a friend is something completely different.  You can setup devious plans with the pipe bombs and trip mines as well as the holodukes.  This game is definetly one of the better games I've played in recent times and I suggest that you download the shareware to check it out yourself.
