The Fourth Ward School is haunted by the spirits of dead children and teachers. Some report hearing the sounds of children running, playing, laughing and crying within the school building.
The upper rooms are generally off limits to the visitors. The upper rooms are filled with chairs, desks, boxes and artifacts from years gone by.
They say that a child playing on the staircase fell to their death. The child's spirit is said to haunt the rooms and the staircase of the Fourth Ward School.
These are two of the original telephone switchboards from the early days of telephone.
Over the years people have left their names with dates on the old black boards. These are not slate boards as found in many schools. The blasting from the mines would break the slate boards.
Laura and Kristy investigate an old piano in a room on an upper floor of the school. People claim that sometimes they hear notes from the piano when there's no one there. Please notice the beautiful woodwork. Click the piano picture to see larger image.
This trip was our second paranormal investigation and we still had a lot to learn. We visited quite a few places and listened to stories from several people. You will find one of these on the Gold Hill Hotel page.
We did not do a night time investigation at the Fourth Ward School. By the time we had completed our walk through of the building we were all tired.
